Nursery Education Funding

Oakridge Primary School recognises that families may require flexible childcare arrangements beyond the standard Nursery hours. Our Little Oaks provision offers extended care for children aged 3 and above, supporting working families and providing continuity of care within a familiar and nurturing environment.

Children who do not attend the morning session in the School Nursery can access Little Oaks immediately after the morning Nursery session concludes. This option provides a smooth transition and enables children to remain on-site with experienced staff in a setting aligned with the school’s ethos and routines.

Age and Eligibility

Little Oaks is available as soon as your child turns 3 years old. However, funding through the government’s universal 15-hour entitlement is only available from the start of the term after their third birthday.

For example:

  • If your child turns 3 in November, they may begin attending Little Oaks straight away.

  • However, you would be required to pay for sessions privately until the end of that term.

  • Government funding would commence in January, at the start of the spring term.

Families eligible for 2-year-old funding may be able to access funded places earlier. Please check eligibility criteria and ensure you apply in time to secure funding from the term in which your child turns 3.

Session Times

Little Oaks runs during term time only and offers the following after school care options:

  • First session: until 4:20pm

  • Full session: until 5:50pm

This structure gives parents the flexibility to choose a session that best suits their schedule.

Emergency Sessions

We understand that childcare needs can occasionally change at short notice. An ‘emergency session’ refers to a care session that is not part of a regular, pre-booked schedule.

Please note the following regarding emergency bookings:

  • Emergency sessions must be agreed with a member of staff in advance — places cannot be guaranteed due to staffing ratios and space availability.

  • A £1 surcharge will be added to the cost of an emergency session.

  • Emergency before-school care (from 8:00am onwards) is available without prior booking through the 8 O’Clock Club; the £1 additional surcharge applies.
